Anyone who's ever had likewise little money to cover what life throws at you, knows one thing: it'due south expensive AF to exist broke. There are countless means in which those who have less end upwards paying more than: buying in small quantities rather than in discounted bulk; ignoring auto servicing because you can't afford it, only to suffer a breakdown (towing + repair = $$$); not having a bank business relationship considering of bad credit, or lacking the minimum remainder, and so giving up some of your paycheck every time you greenbacks it.

This week, Broke in Philly—a collaborative of 20 local media partners, including The Denizen—launched a new series: The #HighCost of Being Broke. In this first installment, partner sites reported on eight areas in which this phenomenon plays out, including banking, transportation, jail cell phone access, food staples and more than. Many of these stories besides highlight solutions—policies or programs or options that help alleviate some of the cost born by those who can to the lowest degree afford to have them on.
